I saw a concert advertized in a little village about a half an hour from Granada. It was to take place in an old olive mill on the outskirts of Granada. It turned out that the insurance on my car had expired as the company had sent my notices to the wrong address. That meant I was carless. I called up to cancel and instead the owners said we will pick you up as we are going there in a few hours. It turned out to be an old farm purchased by their father in 1935. In renovating the farm they found large urns that were used to store the olive oil dating to the 1700’s although the farm is most likely even older. It was a beautiful experience that I hadn’t expected. The old storage room had been turned into a family restaurant and the owners were the hosts. The wife met all the guests personally. The husband did the entrainment. He is a guitarist and brought in extremely good groups of Flamenco. Another sister was the waitress. They are family of 11 children. On weekends they all go to the little village. They renovated the house but left a lot of the original fixtures like the polished brick flooring and the high ceilings with open wooden beams. All the old equipment for making olive oil has been maintained and still works. They give tours or how this equipment is used. The local boys go pick the olives and throw their bags of olives into the mill. The scenery around is full of canyons, a very elegant cave homes. The town has a population of only 90 people. Friday night the restaurant was full. Everyone talked to everyone else. As I had no car I was perused to stay overnight in very comfortable hotel. The fact that I was carless turned out to be a blessing for a wonderful stay that took me back a few centuries.
